Midweek School (Friends in Faith) - TBA
Vacation Bible Camp (School)
Check out descriptions and details of each program below.
Classes are for children ages 3 to grade 6.
Sunday School begins just before the sermon. Its start time varies depending on whether or not Holy Communion is celebrated. Sunday School lasts for 45 minutes from the time of dismissal from church.
Our Sunday School format involves concentrating on one story each month to help the children learn it well. Each week, we present the story in a different way (music, drama, science, art, games, etc.) We also include small portions of Luther’s Small Catechism in our Sunday School instruction, such as the 10 Commandments, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Apostle’s Creed, so as to give children a leg-up on Confirmation.
Those parents who are unable to bring their children to worship, but who would still like to participate in the Sunday School program may drop off their children at 10:40am at the back of the church at the double doors. We request that you bring your children to this door rather than dropping them off at the street for safety reasons. A greeter will meet you there and take your children to the supervised play area. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to stay for the sermon portion of the service, and for fellowship time with coffee and goodies to follow. For those who prefer not to wait at the church, please pick up your child at 11:35 am. If Sunday School happens to be finished earlier, we will supervise your child until you arrive. Occasionally we run a little late. Your patience is appreciated.
Confirmation class is a two-year program in which students receive basic instruction in the Christian faith. The goal of this instruction is for students to search and wrestle through tough issues about life and faith, and ultimately to be prepared to make their vow before God and the church to continue in life-long learning and growth in their faith through church attendance and personal and group Bible study. We seek to impress upon the students that this is a major promise, and should not be made lightly.
Confirmation is split into two classes – first and second year. Each spring, the church celebrates Confirmation Sunday, and the second year students stand before the congregation for questioning, and to make their confirmation vow. This is a time of great joy and celebration as we welcome these young people as adult members of our church family.
Our main confirmation resources are the Holy Bible, and Luther’s Small Catechism. Dr. Martin Luther wrote the Small Catechism as a basic instruction manual for fathers to teach the Christian faith to their families. This book does not in any way compare to or attempt to replace the God’s Word, but rather to explain and organize it in an orderly manner.
Pastor Mark works hard to compile relevant and interesting materials, incorporating current issues in the media, and making regular use of video and PowerPoint. They also strive to help the students discover how what they are learning applies to them as unique individuals, and as children of God in varying lifestyles and family situations.
Confirmation classes are designed for those in grade 7-8, and run on Wednesdays during the school year, 4:00-5:30 pm.
Those in Confirmation are strongly encouraged to attend Sunday worship regularly. In addition to completing the required sermon reports each year, attending Sunday worship is part of becoming an important part of the Christian life. It may be tempting to sleep in on Sunday mornings after your sermon reports have been completed... But think of yourself as a car. Church is where you are refuelled – you are reminded of and receive God’s love and forgiveness, you are with your family of other believers, and you are encouraged and built up for the week ahead. We honour God by obeying his command to remember the Sabbath day. It’s Commandment #3. And it’s for our benefit!
ADULTS: Modified confirmation instruction is also available upon request. Please contact Pastor Mark Danielson if you are interested.
Midweek Program – Friends in Faith
Friends in Faith will not run this Fall (September 2015). Please stay tuned for different programming for our children.
Vacation Bible Camp (VBC)
Trinity’s Vacation Bible Camp takes place in July. This program takes place at Trinity, and runs from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Children ages 5 and under may be picked up at lunchtime (12:00 noon) if desired. More details will be posted in the Spring.
Vacation Bible Camp is designed to be a fun week for children ages 3 to grade 12, where children and youth engage with each other and with the teachers and volunteers through games and activities, and also where they learn more about who they are as children of God. We highlight the importance of sharing our possessions with others through our mission offerings, through which we support a different organization each year. We strive to make VBC as much fun as possible, but ultimately, we want the children and youth to walk away after that week knowing that it is because of what Jesus did for us that we have a place in heaven. We can never be “good enough” to please him, or earn our way to heaven. (Psalm 51:5, Romans 5:8, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 3:16-17) What a wonderful gift salvation is!
There is no cost for this program, but donations are welcome!
All children, whether in Sunday school or not, are invited to join in our annual Christmas program, which takes place at Trinity’s Christmas Eve Service on December 24th at 6:45 pm. Practices run on Sundays during Sunday School beginning November 22, 2015 with dress rehearsal scheduled for Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 9 am. Children are required to attend several in order to participate. During these practices, we work on music and program details, build props and costumes, with a snack break mid-way through. We welcome your children to join us. If you would like to volunteer with this program in any way, please contact Sheila Lindsay.
